Live action role play, or 'Larp', is a type of role-playing game in which participants (usually known as 'players') create a character and then through collaboration, interact with and relate to each other in a fictional setting. Larp worlds can take many forms from the fantastical, historical to futuristic or be grounded in contemporary situations. Each person’s experience of the same Larp will be different, and that’s what makes being a player exciting, engaging and possibly reflective or tough, perhaps even all those things at once.

 

Who Can Take Part?

 

You needn't have taken part in a Larp before to get involved in Stone Frigate. (Or have any form of performance experience). It is therefore open to anyone who would like to give this fluid and immersive form of narrative a try.

 

In addition to the information contained on this website, all players will receive further details in advance of the event, and the evening of Friday 27 February will be used to run some informal presentations and brief practical workshops about to help you get a better idea of what's involved.

 

What Do I Need To Do To Participate?

 

If you’d like to participate, you need to fill in the sign-up form before the closing date of Wednesday 31 December 2014. You’ll then hear back from the organisers - if you haven’t done so before - and will need to pay the booking fee to secure your place. See the Booking and Sign-up pages for more details. Due to alcohol being available during the event, booking is restricted to over 18s only. (Should it be necessary to cancel Stone Frigate, any fees paid will be reimbursed).

 

You'll then be sent further information and your character description. Due to the period and military specifics of the clothing to be worn during Stone Frigate, the organisers will supply most of the costuming needed, alongside accommodation and meals. Again, see the Costume and Accommodation pages for further details. Its probably a good idea to also bring some limited items to help enrich your character. Remember though, being a military setting you won’t be allowed much.
