COSTUMING

The majority of costume will be provided once you have paid for and secured your place. The reason for providing costume, rather than costume being created by each player, is to create continuity across individual ranks - whether you are playing a rating, or possibly a petty officer or chief petty officer Additionally, sourcing or recreating World War II Royal Naval uniform is not an easy task! After signing up, you’ll be asked to provide basic clothing sizes so we have this information to hand.

Most players will be lower-class ratings, specifically seamen, and therefore wear the appropriate ‘square rig’ uniform in the correct manner. For the purposes of the event, whether you are male or female, no differentiation will be made between uniform. So for example, a female player will not wear a WRNS (Womens Royal Navy Service) uniform, but the same uniform as a male co-player.

Royal Naval Rating Uniform

As a rating you will be supplied with:

  • Serge Bell Trousers

  • Serge Jumper

  • Cotton Flannel Shirt

  • Seaman’s Collar

  • Regulation Silk

  • Seaman’s Cap

You will need to source:

  • Black Leather Ankle Boots (or similar to the image below)

  • Black Socks (knee-high, thick)

Royal Naval Chief Petty Officer (CPO) or Petty Officer (PO) Uniform

As a CPO or PO your uniform will consist of:

  • Serge Trousers

  • Serge Jacket

  • Dark Tie

  • Petty Officer Cap with Badge

You will also need to source black ankle boots and black socks, as described above, plus:

  • White Cotton Shirt

Other Clothing:

If you are able to find one, you may wish to bring a Royal Navy style Duffel coat, which would keep you warm for any outside activities. (Due to Stone Frigate taking place in late winter, if needed, thermals could be hidden under the uniform. These could also be useful for when sleeping! White thermals are preferred).

Additional Items:

In game you won’t be allowed many personal belongings. However, do bring items that may help with your character creation and that fit the 1940s period. For example, a ‘sweetheart’ photo, cherished family object, tobacco tin with rolling tobacco (if your character smokes) etc.
