LOCATION

Kielder Castle is located in Kielder village in a remote area of western Northumberland, a short distance away from the Scottish border. The village lies at the head of a large man-made lake and within England's largest forest. (See the map below).

GETTING THERE

By Car

Due to its isolated location Kielder Village is best accessed by car.

Relative to nearby towns and cities, the village is approximately:

      - 35 miles (60 minutes drive) from Hexham
      - 54 miles (85 minutes drive) from Newcastle upon Tyne
      - 40 miles (80 minutes drive) from Carlisle
      - 75 miles (120 minutes drive) from Edinburgh

When signing-up, please indicate if you are likely to drive to the event, as this may help minimize player costs and assist anyone who doesn’t drive. Following the booking deadline, we’ll then look at where people are travelling from and whether car sharing may work.

Parking

There is ample parking available near Kielder Castle, and a designated parking area will be arranged specifically for the event.

Event Bus

If there are large numbers who do not drive or own a car then we’ll look at organising a bus to Kielder to depart from a central location, such as Newcastle Central Station and/or Hexham Station.

Travelling From Further Afield?

Newcastle Central Station is the closest large train station, and is well networked to the national rail system. Typical journey time from London, for example, is 3 hours and low cost tickets can be found when booked in advance.

Newcastle Airport caters for both national and international flights, and the Tyne & Wear Metro links the airport to Newcastle Central Station (journey time approximately 25 minutes).

NEARBY FACILITIES

Kielder village has a petrol station that has 24/7 chip and pin service using a credit or debit card. During the daytime, the Village Shop is available for general groceries and provisions, and there is a cafe located in the visitor centre of Kielder Castle. The rural town of Bellingham is 18 miles (30 minutes drive) away and has a cashpoint, small supermarket and further petrol facilities. If you plan to make a longer visit to the area, a good starting point for information can be found on the Kielder Water & Forest Park website at www.visitkielder.com
