ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation and mess barracks will be situated in Kielder Castle, a former hunting lodge of the Duke of Northumberland. The castle now acts as a visitor centre for the Kielder Forest Park, and provides a basic level of comfort and warmth. A closed and secure section will be used during the mornings and evenings. However, representing a Naval base at the height of World War II, expect amenities to be sparse. The accommodation will consist of an open and shared room, with period bunk beds. Officers quarters may be separate and a little more generous in their provision. Basic bedding will be provided including an under sheet, pillow, top sheet and blanket.

Toilets and simple washing facilities are located within Kielder Castle.

The second component to the camp will be located a short distance away in a remote area, and accessed using period transport. All daytime activities will take place at this site, which will consist of an activity barrack, officer’s quarters and assessment/medical unit. The camp will have no walls or fencing to contain personnel, and be surrounded by open moorland and forest.

As part of the event, all meals will be provided. Following sign-up, details will be gathered concerning dietary requirements.
